Project Overview
I'm supporting AB-222, which mandates energy usage reporting for data centers and includes establishing efficiency standards aligned with California's environmental goals. I'll meet with three legislators leaning toward approval to emphasize the importance of this bill in promoting transparency and sustainability in AI development and data center operations.
How It Works
1

Launch

Advocates launch campaigns on key California bills clearly stating their position and planned advocacy actions.

2

Contribute

Constituents contribute funds toward these campaigns, empowering advocates to directly engage legislators.

3

Advocate

Once funded, advocates meet lawmakers or testify at hearings, with Veeto verifying every action for transparency.

4

Verify

If campaigns don't hit their funding goals or can't move forward, contributors receive a full refund.

Project Description

I plan to meet with three members of the Appropriations Committee, focusing especially on those who are leaning "yes," to highlight why my supporters and I urge them to support AB-222.

If AB-222 moves out of the Appropriations Committee before I can complete these meetings, I will carry over the funds and continue meeting with a total of three legislators on the floor.

My main points are as follows:

  • This bill ensures utility customers don't face the costs of new data center demand via higher energy prices
  • AI is causing energy demand to soar and delaying the shutdown of gas power plants,
  • AI is creating new data centers, which means greater water demand
  • More energy-efficient centers mean less water will be needed to cool them

Ultimately, this bill would reduce both energy and water consumption in California’s data centers

Appropriations Committee Members I Plan to Contact:

  • The Committee Chair, Buffy Wicks (D)
  • José Luis Solache Jr. (D)
  • Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D)
