Project Overview
I plan to travel to Sacramento to speak in support of SB-684 at the Senate Standing Committee on the Judiciary hearing on April 22nd. This important bill would require major fossil fuel companies to contribute financially toward repairing the climate damage their activities have caused in California.
How It Works
1

Launch

Advocates launch campaigns on key California bills clearly stating their position and planned advocacy actions.

2

Contribute

Constituents contribute funds toward these campaigns, empowering advocates to directly engage legislators.

3

Advocate

Once funded, advocates meet lawmakers or testify at hearings, with Veeto verifying every action for transparency.

4

Verify

If campaigns don't hit their funding goals or can't move forward, contributors receive a full refund.

Project Description

To ensure legislators hear strong public advocacy for this bill, I seek financial assistance to help cover travel expenses to Sacramento for the April 22nd hearing. Your support will allow me to advocate directly to lawmakers and clearly represent the urgency and importance of SB-684.

Why This Matters:
California residents increasingly face climate-related disasters—the recent Los Angeles wildfires are the latest clear example. The resulting damages unfairly burden taxpayers, especially disadvantaged communities most harmed by climate impacts. Meanwhile, major fossil fuel companies responsible for the majority of emissions have largely escaped accountability. As a soon-to-be environmental policy graduate, I am confident I can recognize strong legislation. I have analyzed countless policies and environmental laws during my studies, and in my opinion, SB-684 is a very effective bill that will lead to real change if it passes.

What SB-684 Proposes:

  • Establishes a Climate Superfund Program requiring major fossil fuel companies to pay for climate damages from 1990-2024.

  • Requires companies responsible for over 1 billion metric tons of emissions to pay their proportional share of damages.

  • Mandates that 40% of collected funds benefit disadvantaged communities impacted by climate change.

  • Creates enforcement mechanisms, including business license revocation for companies that fail to pay assessed costs.
