Subject: Support AB-1243 to Hold Polluters Accountable and Fund Climate Resilience in California

Dear [Legislators],

My name is [Full Name], I urge you to support AB-1243 the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act of 2025. This past January extreme, climate-driven wildfires ravaged California, forcing at least 150,000 people to flee and leaving 40,000 acres in ruins. People lost their homes and livelihoods — and even their lives. The devastation caused by the L.A. fires will likely cost more than $250 billion. Climate change already costs us dearly today, but one conservative estimate predicts it will cost the state — and ultimately taxpayers — more than $113 billion annually by 2050. Why should taxpayers bear the full cost of the climate damages caused by big polluters? With each new disaster we're forced to cover, climate change is making the state less affordable than ever. But there's a solution: Passing a climate superfund to ensure that the largest fossil-fuel polluters — those that have done the most to cause the climate crisis — pay fairly for the damages their products and projects inflict on the state's air, water, people, and wildlife. That's why I'm asking you to support and vote "yes" on the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act. This urgently needed legislation will bring down costs for taxpayers, ensure the state has the resources needed to recover after climate disasters, help build climate-resilient neighborhoods, fortify us against future climate harms, and move us away from fossil fuels. Please do everything in your power to help pass this legislation, which we need now more than ever. Sincerely,
